Harare: Capital of Zimbabwe

Formerly known as Salisbury, the city’s name was changed to Harare in 1982. It is the capital of Zimbabwe in Africa and a great place to spend your vacation. Go on safari, take a trip to the beautiful Victoria Falls or go out and enjoy the city jazz scene. No matter what you feel like, there’s always fun things to do in Harare to fit your mood.

Safari

If you are on holiday and want to experience a safari, then come to the Harare Safari Lodge, which is on the banks of Lake Chivero. It offers patrons fantastic lake views and a way to experience the sights and sounds of Africa with great food and personal service.

 

Restaurants and Nightlife

Harare is said to have a vibrant nightlife with several restaurants, clubs and bars.  These include jazz and blues bars, dance clubs, pool bars, and more. One famous Jazz Club is Mannenburg Jazz Club, with live performances every night.

 

Weddings

Weddings are popular to hold in Harare and you’ll find many different wedding venues to choose from. Some of these include Zimbabwe’s Leading Hotel, which is a boutique hotel only a few minutes’ drive from the famous Victoria Fall, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Or you can combine your wedding with activities such as a lion walking safari or a trip up the Zambezi River and a guided tour of the Victoria Falls.

Another choice is the Great Zimbabwe Hotel, which is close to the Great Zimbabwe Monument and the Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site, which is a very popular wedding venue. Or maybe you’d prefer to get married at the Nesbitt Castle, where up to 300 guests can be invited and eat a fantastic buffet meal.

 

When to go to Harare

Harare has a subtropical highland style of climate. The average temperature all year is about 17.95 °C (64.3 °F). It has three seasons, the wet season between November and April, a dry season between May to August and a hot and dry season between September and October.

The Harare International Festival of the Arts is in April or early May and is a weeklong festival covering events in theater, dance, fine art, music and poetry.

GOLF

Golf in Harare

There are a couple of great golf courses in Harare. The most centrally located is the Chapman Golf Club, an 18 hole championship golf course which has many times hosted Zimbabwe Open Golf Championships. The course uses the Mukuvisi River both as a water hazard and as a scenic beauty to behold. A little bit to the west you will find Sherwood Golf Club and Warren Hills Golf Club, two great courses to spend the day!
