From its vivid history as a silver mining town to its present metropolitan atmosphere, Zacatecas has remained to be one of the most important cities in Mexico. Holidays in Zacatecas are full of interesting history tours, colorful festival experiences, and exciting visits to the silver mines.
The quaint but urban city of Zacatecas sits at an altitude of 8,100 feet and is the second highest city in Mexico. It is one of the three famous silver mining towns and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city’s historic downtown is one of the most visited tourist spots in Zacatecas. It is where you can find the Zacatecas Cathedral, a prominent piece of architecture in the city center. The Cathedral was built of pink sandstone and is considered one of the finest examples of Churrigueresque architecture in all of Mexico.
You can also tour some of the old mines in and around the city. Of these mines, El Eden is the most popular. It features different rock formations and original underground machinery.
Because of its semi-arid climate and high altitude, the average temperature in Zacatecas is cool at 15.7°C (60°F). Most nights are chilly and the days are temperate. The rainiest time of the year is from June through October while the coldest is from January to February.
