UNESCO World Heritage Sites Hue - Complex of Hué Monuments

Under the Nguyen dynasty, Hué was the capital city of Vietnam politically, culturally and religiously since the unification of the country in 1802. The city is planned and aligned cosmologically with the cardinal points, the five elements and the five colours. Today, the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the centre there is the Hué Citadel area, which had administrative and military functions apart from being the Imperial Residence. Outside, structures like the Temple of Literature Van Mieu or the Sacrifice Esplanade Dan Nam Giao are of great importance. Visiting Hué is best done in a guided tour, since there are not a lot of explanations and the site has a lot to offer!
