Ho Chi Minh is the Paris of the Orient.

Because of the city’s history as a French colony and the assortment of structures built by the French colonists, Ho Chi Minh was nicknamed as the Pearl of the Orient. It is also called Saigon by both locals and tourists in reference to its old name under the French rule. There are various historical and religious attractions as well as other interesting things to do in Ho Chi Minh when you spend a holiday here.

Shopping

Saigon Square and Ben Thanh Market are two of the biggest shopping areas in Ho Chi Minh. Ben Thanh is a traditional market where you can observe and immerse in the rich culture of Vietnam while Saigon Square is an air-conditioned shopping complex just a short walk from Ben Thanh.

 

Nightlife

There isn’t a particular nightlife spot in the city but you can find plenty of places to drink and dance away your night. If you want to go to Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, you can either take a plane or ride a train.

 

When to go to Ho Chi Minh

The city features a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons, plus high temperatures and high humidity all year round. The dry season runs from December through April while the wet season lasts from May through November. The city’s average annual temperature is 28 °C (82 °F), with the lowest January temperature of 16 °C (61 °F) and the highest April high of 39 °C (102 °F).

There are various festivals and sporting events held throughout the year so better check the city’s calendar of events before going to Ho Chi Minh.

OPERA

Saigon Opera House

Also known as The Municipal Theatre of Ho Chi Minh City, this opera house is another one in Vietnam that was made during the French colonization of Vietnam. Built as a smaller counterpart of the Hanoi Opera House and inspired by Opéra Garnier in Paris, the opera house in Ho Chi Minh is a reminder if the history of both the country and the city. It is located near the Saigon River in the cultural center of Ho Chi Minh where you will also find The Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theater and the Notre-Dame Cathedral, which also was built in the time of the French colonization. No matter if you want to enjoy first class opera or a history lesson, the Saigon Opera House is something you will not want to miss!
