Being the capital of the United States, Washington D.C. is one of the wealthiest cities in the country. There are a lot of fun things to do in Washington D.C., it boasts of a plethora of museums and monuments, a lot of which are even free to enter.
There are also various cultural attractions and holiday destinations for people of all ages and walks of life.
When spending your holiday in Washington D.C., you should visit as many tourist spots as you can while you’re there. Some attractions in Washington D.C. can take an entire day to fully enjoy, so make sure to plan your time well.
There are plenty of excellent museums in Washington. Perhaps the most popular and most visited is the series of Smithsonian Museums. They are free of charge and you can learn much about the history and arts in the U.S.
You can also visit the Washington D.C. Zoo (National Zoo), part of the Smithsonian Institution and another free attraction that is open to all visitors.
Of course, you must not miss seeing the Washington Monument because it is the tallest and most symbolic structure in Washington D.C.
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the USA, serving between 1861 and 1865, and in Washington one can visit his memorial. Many visitors also go to see the Petersen House where Abraham Lincoln died and Lincoln’s sculpture on Mount Rushmore.
The city lies in the humid subtropical climate zone and has four distinct seasons. Summer is often humid and can be quite hot while winter is cold and chilly although sometimes quite mild. The weather is nicest during the spring (think cherry blossoms!) and fall seasons. However, they are also the busiest and most crowded times of the year. Regardless of when you arrive to the city you’ll find that there are a lot of things to do in Washington D.C., but some events attracts more visitors than any other. There is always a terrific celebration on 4 July of every year for Independence day.
The city holds two major marathons each year. The Marine Corps Marathon is held in autumn while the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon takes place in the spring.
