Sacramento is known as California’s oldest incorporated city. There are plenty of points of interests in the city, both in the historic district and the modern and progressive part of the city. The Zoo and Fairy Tale Town

If you have children with you, you can purchase a combination ticket which will let you visit the Sacramento Zoo and the Fairy Tale Town. These twin attractions are surely great delights for the young and young at heart.

 

Performing arts

You can also watch theater performances in the Memorial Auditorium and the Community Center Theatre. The Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sacramento Ballet do most of their performances in the Community Center Theatre.

 

 

 

Museums

There are also several museums where you can spend your time learning about California’s rich history, culture, and arts. One of the most impressive museums in the city is the California State Railroad Museum which exhibits live steam locomotives, some of which even date back to the 1800s.

When to go to Sacramento

The wet season in Sacramento runs from October to April while the dry summer season covers May to September. Summer temperatures range from 10.6 to 33°C (51 to 92°F) while average winter lows stay around 5°C (41°F). If you want to go river rafting, the best season to do this activity is from late May through September.

 

Festivals

Most annual festivals take place during the summer season. There is the Sacramento Jazz Festival and Jubilee in late May and the California State Fair from mid-July to early August. All summer, there are Friday night concerts at Ceasar Chavez Park.

Sacramento Marathons

Sacramento has two marathons to offer, The California International Marathon and Beat the Blerch. The California International Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier and is appreciated for its fast, point-to-point and net-downhill course. The finish is just in front of the impressive California State Capitol. Inspired by comic, Beat the Blerch is a marathon with an intertwined course. Run across the stunning Tower Bridge over the largest river in California, the Sacramento River. This event also hosts a half-marathon, a 10K run and a 5K run.

Golf in Sacramento

There are several great and affordable public courses in Sacramento, and the best one might be Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. It features two 18 hole courses, distinctly showcasing the genius of golf architect Alister MacKenzie in the early 20th century. He became a golf architect before bulldozers or other heavy machinery was being used, so his courses has always been about using the natural elements of the landscape to create beautiful, complex and fun courses, and the two courses in Haggin Oaks are no exceptions.
