Raleigh is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the USA

If you are a runner, jogger, hiker, or biker, the city of Raleigh should be on top of your list. However, Raleigh is a great stopover even if you are non of the above. There’s always lots of fun things to do in Raleigh and you’ll find many tourist destination around the city where you can do sightseeing and outdoor activities.


Things to do in Raleigh

Raleigh is the capital city of North Carolina, USA. Its land is characterized by rolling hills and tall oak trees.



Because of its hilly terrain, Raleigh is one of the top destinations for hiking and mountain biking. Throughout the city, you can find bike lanes and biking trails. There are also mountain bike rentals if you wish to explore the city.



Parks and gardens also abound the city. Most of them are often equipped with biking trails and pedestrian paths to help bicyclists and joggers to be safer outdoors. There is also an extensive greenway system throughout Raleigh if you want to have a more scenic and more peaceful biking experience.



After a day of biking, walking, and sightseeing, you can head to a yoga center near you. Yoga classes and sessions can be found around the city.


When to go to Raleigh

Raleigh features a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid, winters are cool and often freezing, and rainfall is spread throughout the year. In the coldest month of January, the average temperature is 5 °C (41 °F). In July, the city’s hottest month, the mean temperature is 26.7 °C (80 °F).

Spring and autumn are great times to visit the city because the weather is not so hot and rainfall is relatively lower than the summer season. These seasons are also the best times to go biking and hiking in and around Raleigh.

Raleigh Marathons

City of Oaks Marathon offers a total of six different races. Raleigh City of Oaks Marathon, Rex Healthcare Half-Marathon, News & Observer Old Reliable 10K, Four-person Marathon Relay, NEW Two-person Half-Marathon Relay and YMCA Kids' Marathon Mile. The Umstead Trail Marathon takes you through dense woods, lakes, streams and hills in Umstead State Park. Overall a scenic course, who is seen as challenging with all of its hills. Rock 'n Roll Raleigh Marathon also has a very scenic course and there is a half-marathon and a 5K run available as well.

Golf in Raleigh

One of the best golf courses in Raleigh can be found at Lonnie Poole Golf Club. It was designed by golfing legend Arnold Palmer and features an 18 hole course with amazing views of the Raleigh skyline. It will challenge you with smart elevation changes, where you will have to carefully choose your clubs when determining distances that get a little bit distorted when you are standing on a hill, aiming down at the greens. Other courses you shouldn't miss in Raleigh include Raleigh Golf Association, Hedingham Golf & Athletic Club and Wil-Mar Golf Course, all located within 10 kilometers of the inner city.
