New York City – In the media and culture capital of the world

New York City, in the great state of New York, is a city of culture and fun and there is a lot of things to do in NYC, also called The Big Apple. From an annual marathon to a number of spectacular holiday events, there is always something to see on holiday.

 

Things To Do in NYC

There is no shortage of things to do in NYC (New York City). For instance, the New York marathon is enjoyed by over 35,000 athletes today after a meager start in 1970 with only 55 runners. It is held in November.

 

Shopping in New York

New York is a perfect vacation destination for shopping and if you enjoy fashion then make sure to visit the city during the New York Fashion Week. The famous department stores such as Bloomingdales and Macy’s are in Mid Manhattan with the prestigious boutiques and salons in SoHo. Try the bargains in China Town or Little Italy or the historic Orchard Street Shopping District, as well as great shopping opportunities in Lower Manhattan, Tribeca, and the Financial District. Let your inner hipster out and take the subway to Brooklyn. The shopping, yoga studios, tattoo parlors and places for brunch won’t disappoint.

 

New York Botanical Garden

If you love nature, don’t miss then New York Botanical Garden with its multiple seasonal offering, as well as special days such as the Holiday Train Show, an Orchid show and a flower festival in the fall .If you love nature and people watching head to Central Park.

 

New York City Ballet

If you love dance, be sure to get tickets to the famous New York Ballet. Or do it yourself in one of the hundreds of dance clubs.

Metropolitan Opera House: the Met

The Metropolitan Opera House, New York City’s main opera house situated at Lincoln Square, is the world’s largest purpose-built opera house. Opened in 1966, the Met is the home of the Metropolitan Opera, the largest classical music company in North America. The venue was designed by Wallace K. Harrison and it is noted for its excellent acoustics and large size. The wide range of prices for the shows at the Met make it a very accessible activity if you are interested, and guided tours are also offered!

UNESCO World Heritage Sites New York City - Statue of Liberty

On the centenary of American independence, France sent a gift to the United States: the Statue of Liberty. It was made in Paris by the French sculptor Bartholdi in collaboration with Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, designer of the Eiffel Tower. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Statue of Liberty represents international friendship, peace and progress and it has greeted the arrival of immigrants at the entrance to the New York Harbour since its inauguration in 1886. If you want to go to the top during your visit, you’d better book in advance, meaning five or six months previous to your visit! Otherwise, the sights of the statue itself from the boat are already breath-taking.

MARATHON

The New York City Marathon

The New York City Marathon takes place the first Sunday of November every year and is the biggest and most popular marathon race in the world. Every year, both professional and beginner runners travel from all over the world to participate. The New York City Marathon is a part of the World Marathon Majors, along with other great marathons in Boston, Chicago, London, and Tokyo. Due to its popularity most of the contestants get picked through a lottery. The running starts in Staten Island and continues on through Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Manhattan. At last you finish in the world known Central Park. You have to be at least 18 years old to participate in the race.

Golf in New York City

There sure is no shortage of golf courses in New York City. Some of the best include the oldest public golf course in the United States, Van Cortlandt Golf Course, the Clearview Park Golf Course and the scenic Trump Golf Links.
