Indianapolis: home of the Indianapolis 500 race

Indianapolis is the capital of Indiana in the US. It is also home to the famous car race the Indianapolis 500, in which formula one style cars race around an oval 200 mile long track in May.  It’s rated as the best downtown area in the US by Forbes and with over 200 shops, 35 hotels, and over 300 restaurants.

Children’s Museum

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is the biggest of its kind in the world. It has five floors full of exhibits with more than 120,000 artifacts, including simulated dinosaur habitat, a steam locomotive, and a carousel. Kids can see hands on activities and have fun while learning about. If you are traveling kids, this is definitely one of the best things to do in Indianapolis and something for the whole family to enjoy!


Museum of Art

The Indianapolis Museum of Art, also called the IMA, has more than 54,000 exhibits from neoimpressionist paintings to Japanese paintings from the Edo period, as well as sculptures and prints, Chinese ceramics and bronzes, many kinds of textiles and fashion art, contemporary art pieces, and more for art lovers on holiday to ponder over.


Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is a chief American orchestra that performs more than 200 concerts a year. They perform in the Hilbert Circle Theatre in the downtown region of Indianapolis. It was renovated in 1984 and used to be a movie palace.


When to go to Indianapolis

Indianapolis has a humid continental style climate with hot, humid summers that average around 24.1 °C (75.4 °F) in July, and can get over 32 °C (90 °F) several days a year. It has cold winters, with average temperatures being −2.2 °C (28.1 °F) in January.

Come in October for the annual Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon at Fort Harrison. It also features a half marathon and a one mile kid’s marathon and a 5K run/walk. Come in December to see the Indianapolis Symphony perform the annual Yuletide Celebration to welcome the holiday season with music.

Indianapolis Marathon

The Indianapolis Marathon has been an annual marathon event since it was established in the 1990's. Apart from the main marathon you can also take part in shorter running distances as well as walking the marathon, which is a nice way to spend an afternoon alone with the environment or with a couple of friends. The route will take you through the scenic Fort Harrison State Park as well as the picturesque Lake Charlevoix before finishing in the Lawton Loop. Golf in Indianapolis

There are several great golf courses spread out in Indianapolis. Sarah Shank Golf Course is usually described as one of the best and most centrally located. It combines scenic nature with challenging design to create a rewarding round of golf. In and around Indianapolis you’ll find several theme parks and the two most popular of them are Indiana Beach and Holiday World. Water Parks in Indianapolis - Cool down at Indiana Beach

Indianapolis does not have a full-blown water park, but if you are in the mood for some water splashing fun, the amusement park Indiana Beach has a water park area inside the park. It offers you water slides, action river and a splash bash area where there is fountains and waterfalls.
