If you are on holiday and love fish and sea creatures, come to the Austin Aquarium with over 3,000 species including rays, seals, sea birds, otters, and more. It also has fun sleepovers for the kids and behind the scenes tours.

 

Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary

Animal lovers should also see the Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization known for rescuing animals. There are more than 100 species such as lions, tigers, cougars, monkeys, bears, lemurs, and porcupines.

 

 

 

When to go to Austin

Austin’s climate is humid subtropical which means it has hot summers, but mild winters. A high temperature in July and August range from 34– 36 °C (high 90s °F) and the winter is mostly dry and snow is very rare there. Average winter temperature is 5.3 ºC (41.5 ºF) in January, the coldest month of the year.

Festivals

If you love art and films, come to the annual Austin Film Festival and Conference in October. It attracts agents, screen writers, producers and writers and celebrates screenplays, TV and film.
South by Southwest (SXSW) is another film festival that happens in March. It is about music and film and started in 1987. It grows bigger every year and  the last one was 10 days long. There’s no doubt that this clean city has a lot to offer and that you won’t have a problem finding fun and exciting things to do in Austin whenever you visit.

MARATHON

Austin Marathon

The Austin Marathon is an annual urban marathon event that has been held in February for over 25 years. The race starts on the northern side of the Lady Bird Lake, runs through the South River City, Travis Heights and South Congress on the south side and then turns over the river to the north urban side where you will run past the Hancock Golf Course and the University of Texas. The Austin Marathon is a great way of seeing the capital of Texas. The event also features a half-marathon and a 5k so no matter your level of athleticism there will be something for you to participate in.

GOLF

Golf in Austin

There are several great golf courses in Austin. The Roy Kizer Golf Course is an 18 hole link style golf course that both professionals and amateurs can enjoy. Riverside Golf Club is another great, centrally located course. It is played alongside the Colorado River, giving you a scenic experience as you traverse the fairways. Near Downtown Austin you will find Morris Williams Golf Course, a great 18 hole course with a view of the Austin skyline. There are more courses a bit outside of the city, so if you can go by car the possibilities become almost endless!

Water Parks in Austin - Surf it up at Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort

With the Texas heat comes a lot of opportunities for you to escape it in forms of water parks. There are a lot of them, but the two that are the most popular are Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort and Shore Club Volente Beach. They both offer a great deal of attractions and water slides and are a good option for a day of cooling fun together with family or friends. At Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort you can practice on your surfing skills in their popular Boogie Bahn Surfing Ride. At Shore Club Volente Beach kids can be pirates for a day at the Pirate Ship and the adults can relax in the Lazy Lagoon.
