Monastir has beautiful, expansive beaches which are never crowded since the city is not exactly very touristy. You must also see the Mausoleum of Bourguiba where a large cemetery of the Tunisian ex-president remains. You can also visit the Medina of Sousse which is a nearby city where you can explore more markets and historical buildings.
Monastir has a desert climate with extremely high summer temperatures and cool winter days. You will want to drink plenty of cool water and local fresh juices if you travel during the summertime. The Muslim religious Eid celebrations take place throughout the year, so be sure to check which ones fall during your visit if you would like to partake in local festivities.
