One of the largest cities in South Africa, Port Elizabeth is known as the Friendly City because of the wonderful local hospitality and kindness that visitors receive. The harbor itself is a wonderful historic site to visit. It is also the location of the train station which you can take to visit other parts of South Africa. Cape Town is just a train ride away and is a great place to visit if you have the time.
Port Elizabeth has fairly mild weather with cool winters and warm summers. It is sometimes called the “windy city” because of the strong winds which make it a great surfing destination. While there is no wrong time to visit Port Elizabeth, the summer offers more of the festivals and celebrations, including the Prawn Festival in May.
