Russia – also known as the Russian Federation or just RF – is a country of great history that rises in the 9th century in Kievan Russian. It’s also a country of rich and diverse culture which presented our world with such geniuses as Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky, Glinka, Aivazovsky, Vasnetsov and so many other masters of literature and art.

Moreover Russia is a motherland of Ivan the Great, Ekaterina II, Petr I, Mendeleev, Lomonosov, Gagarin and many more who created the history of the humanity. No doubt the most important Russian cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yekaterinburg – are worth visiting in order to touch centuries-old history.

The Russian Federation is the largest country not only in Eurasia but in the whole world – it covers more than one-eighth of the land area inhabited on the Earth. Due to this fact Russians can greet the New Year – probably the most important holiday in the country – 9 different times!

 

Wild Nature

Russia is also famous for its nature which impresses wherever you may be: from the wild nature in the Far East at Kamchatka Peninsula to the European part where the popular Golden Ring is situated and from the Extreme North with its aurora polaris which can be observed in any of the unlit cities and areas on the Kola Peninsula and to the always warm and welcoming South with its sunny beaches on the one hand to the Caucasus Mountains on the other.

A large portion of Russia including Moscow and Saint Petersburg experience a humid continental climate, but due to the vastness in size, extreme temperatures are normal in some areas. There are also arctic, subarctic and subtropical zones. Russia is famous for its Russian winters and certainly were a source of great inspiration for many a Russian writer.
