Rijeka Opera House

By the locals usually called HNK Zajc, this is the main opera house of Rijeka and home to the Croatian Symphonic Opera and Ballet. Inaugurated in 1885 and designed by the famous architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer who were responsible for many great opera houses in Europe in the late 19th and early 20th century. During the introductory performance the first light bulb in Rijeka lit up the opera house to the amazement of the people in attendance. Today, it takes more than a light bulb to please the opera goers in the city, so luckily for the HNK Zajc, their performances are of world class caliber.
