Phoenix is the capital of Arizona in the US and one of its most populated cities. It is famous for being the home of Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female judge sworn into the US Supreme Court.

Phoenix Zoo

Holiday goers who love animals should visit the Phoenix Zoo is the biggest privately-owned zoo in the US. It opened in 1962 and is active in animal conservation and breeding programs.

 

Phoenix Art Museum

Art lovers can enjoy the Phoenix Art Museum. It consists of 285,000 square feet of exhibits from America, Asia, Latin America, and European contemporary and modern art. It also has photography exhibits and a space for children called PhxArtKids.

 

The Phoenix Theatre

The Phoenix Theatre, which was founded in 1920, is the oldest of Phoenix’s arts groups in the state. The Little Theater is located at Central and McDowell streets. They have a main stage series, theatre for young audiences, community outreach programs and sponsor the Hormel New Works Festival.

 

Convention Center

The Phoenix Convention Center is great if you need some business spaces for a group meeting. It has over 900,000 square feet for meetings and events.

 

When to go to Phoenix

Phoenix features a subtropical desert climate, which means it has very hot summers and the winters are warm. In fact, it has some of the highest temperatures in the US during the summer.

 

Phoenix City Events

If you like running, come in February for the Phoenix Marathon. The route covers several scenic areas in the area. There is also a half marathon, a 10K run and a 1K run for the kids. Also in February are the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, a celebration of Japanese culture called the Matsuri, and the Estrella War (a medieval festival).

During the Christmas Mariachi Festival in December there’s tons of fun things to do in Phoenix. Enjoy lots of music and dancing or ZooLights at the zoo, and a Pueblo Grande Indian Market.

Phoenix Marathons

In Phoenix you have the opportunity to choose between three different marathons. The first one, Phoenix Rising Marathon, offers you a full marathon, a half-marathon, a 5k run and also a Happy Feet Kids Run, which makes it a good choice for families with small children! Rock 'n Roll Arizona Marathon also has a special run for kids, called Kids Rock. Other than that they have a full marathon, a half-marathon, a 10k run and at last a 5k run. All of them with a scenic course. The last marathon is the Phoenix Marathon, which has a full marathon, a half-marathon and a 10k run to offer you.

GOLF

Golf in Phoenix

There are many centrally located golf courses in Phoenix. Encanto Golf Course is an 18 hole course set in Encanto Park. It is a perfect course if you are an average golfer as it has wide fairways and not too many water hazards and sand bunkers to avoid. It is also a scenic course, with great views of the city center of Phoenix. Another great course can be found at Papago Golf Course. It is set among rocks and hills, with natural water hazards and amazing views of the surrounding area. It is a beautiful course, but also a challenging one! Another great course can be found at Lookout Mountain Golf Club, an ideal club to visit if you are looking for a quiet golf vacation in the beautiful North Phoenix Mountain Preserves.
