Ouarzazate is a small town in Morocco. There isn’t much to see and do in Ouarzazate itself but the town is surrounded by great holiday destinations and cultural attractions. Also, it is a great starting point for exploring the Sahara and staying in the desert overnight.
Desert tours and camel treks are the most popular things to do in Ouarzazate and may also turn out to be the best part of your Moroccan holiday. There are several ways on how you can trek through the great Sahara Desert, but the most popular is by riding a camel or horse. Cars and 4x4s are also available for rent. You can even stay in the Sahara for a night – camping gear can be purchased or rented at one of the various tour operators in and around Ouarzazate.
You can also take excursions to several impressive kasbahs or Islamic citadels usually made of sandstone. The Ait Benhaddou is one of the best preserved kasbahs in Morocco and it is just a couple of hours away from Ouarzazate.
If you are taking the road to Agadir, make a short stop at Oasis de Fint. It is a beautiful paradise in the middle of barren hills surrounding the city.
The desert climate of Ouarzazate is divided into hot, dry summers and cold, windy winters. The hottest months of the year are July and August, with an average high temperature of 39 °C (102 °F).
