When to go to Queenstown

Queenstown features an oceanic climate characterized by long, warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Average daily temperatures during the summer season range from 13 to 15.8 °C (55.4 to 60.4 °F) while the winter season experiences average temperatures ranging from 3 to 7 °C (37.4 to 44.6 °F). Rain is spread evenly throughout the year.



The city plays host to a number of festivals throughout the year. One of the best cultural attractions in Queenstown is the Winter Festival in June. Other events are the Bike Festival held in March or April and the Jazz Festival which takes place in October.

Queenstown ski vacations - Top notch skiing and snowboarding

Queenstown Marathons

In Queenstown, New Zealand, you can choose between two marathons, Queenstown International Marathon and Pure South Shotover Moonlight Mountain Marathon. Queenstown International Marathon takes you through Millbrook resort, Arrowtown, Lakes Hayes, Shotover River, Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown Gardens. The finish is in the heart of Queenstown. A half-marathon, a 10K run and a 3K kids run are also available. When running Pure South Shotover Moonlight Mountain Marathon you start at the Pipeline Bridge and finish at the Ben Lomond Station woolshed at Moke Lake. The course takes you along the Shotover River, among other beautiful places, and you also get panoramic mountain views.
