Castles & Historical Sites

Medieval castles, classical ruins, and cobble-stoned alleys are common sights in Naples. One of the top landmarks of the city is Castel Nuovo, also called Maschio Angioino, which is home to the first king of Naples.

If you love rediscovering the past and history of a place, go to Naples National Archaeological Museum which houses an extensive collection of historic objects and artifacts from the Roman Empire.

 

Cathedral of Naples

If you crave sightseeing, you will not run out of things to see and do because Naples is home to 488 monumental and historical churches. The most prominent is the Cathedral of Naples, home of the city’s patron saint and the main place of worship for the Neapolitan people.

When to go to Naples

Because the climate in Naples is Mediterranean, the city experiences warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters. The winter season runs from October to February, with average temperatures staying at 10°C (50°F), while the summer season runs from June to September, with an average high of 35°C (95°C).

No matter what time of years you visit, you’ll find that there are plenty of things to do in Naples. If you want to avoid the high hotel rates and thick crowds of tourists, you can plan your holiday in the city’s shoulder seasons of April to May and September to October.

 

Maggio dei Monumenti

Christmas, Easter, and the summer season are the most crowded times of the year in Naples. May is also a busy month because it is when the annual festival of Maggio dei Monumenti (May of the Monuments) is held.

Naples Opera House

Real Teatro di San Carlo

The Real Teatro di San Carlo is located on the Piazza Trieste e Trento near the great harbor of Naples. The opera house was built in 1737 and is one of the oldest active opera houses in the world. The interior may just be one of the most stunning with an astonishing ceiling painting of Apollo. No matter if you are looking for international or local opera, this amazing ornate venue will deliver. The opera season runs from late January to May, so be sure to check out their schedule if you are there around that time of the year.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites Naples - Historic Centre of Naples

The city of Naples has seen and retained aspects of the successive cultures that have occupied it since the Greek settlers in 470 BC, and it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although little has survived form the Greek town, there are many Roman remains such as the theatre, the cemeteries and the catacombs, and following this period the coming centuries are pictured in the many churches found in the city, form the 4th century’s San Giorgio Maggiore to the 14th century chapel of Santa Restituta.

Naples Marathon

Held annually in the month of February in the port town of Naples, the Naples Marathon is not only a challenging marathon but also a showcase of the beautiful nature that surrounds the city. Apart from the main marathon you can also run a half-marathon and a 4k run, so there will be something for you no matter your fitness level. The best part of the course is probably the sight that will meet your eyes when you exit the tunnel that leads to the bay of Naples where you can see the epic Mt Vesuvius in the distance.

THEME-PARKS

Theme Parks in Naples - Cozy, small and simple

Near Naples in Italy there is a small theme park called Magic World, although it is small it is still one of the largest ones in the Campania region. The park is home to a nice selection of attractions with a couple of thrill rides as well as three somewhat smaller roller coasters. So if a really big park with adrenaline pumping rides is what you’re looking for this probably won’t be it. But if you want something small and simple, this place works just great. Don’t forget to try their famous Nutella crepes!
