Kiev, also sometimes spelled Kyiv, is the capital and the largest city of Ukraine. It is located in the north central part of the country on the Dnieper River. It is an exciting as well as a beautiful city with much to offer its visitors and whether you are a history buff or a culture lover you’ll find a lot of things to do in Kiev, to fit your interests.
If you are on holiday and love animals, then go to the Kyiv Zoo, which is a hundred years old and has more than 2,600 animals representing more than 328 species.
If you prefer music, take in the Kyiv Ballet, a leading ballet group stationed here. They perform classical ballet and tour worldwide, with more than 24 ballets in their repertory. Another musical venue is the Kyiv Opera, established in 1867. They perform at the National Opera House of Ukraine.
History buffs will enjoy the Kiev Fortress, which is the name of the fortification buildings built in the 19th century as Russian fortresses. Some are now used by military or commercial companies, and some were turned into museums.
Kiev features a humid continental climate with the hottest period being between June to August. In that timeframe the average temperatures range from 13.8 to 24.8 °C (56.8 to 76.6 °F). The coolest months are from December to February with average temperatures ranging −4.6 to −1.1 °C (23.7 to 30.0 °F).
Some of the events during the year are Kyiv Independence Day on August 24th, with fireworks, celebrations, parties and festivities. Fashion Week is held in both March and October where many fashion designers come there to show off their clothing and celebrities and clients from all over the world come to see the newest fashions. It is billed as being as successful as the shows in Paris, London or New York.
Music lovers should come for the Jazz festival in October, which lasts for three days and features many renowned jazz artists.
