Things to do in Donegal

 

Donegal Beaches, Cliffs and Mountains

The town’s rugged landscape consists of sandy beaches, towering mountain ranges, rolling hills, and scenic cliffs. If you are seeking adventure, you can go rock climbing, surfing, and hill walking.

 

Donegal Golf Club

Another more leisurely activity is golfing and in and around Donegal are several golf courses. One of the most popular golf clubs in Donegal is the 18 hole championship course called Murvagh Golf Club, also referred to simply as Donegal Golf Club. The club is beautifully located by the shores of Donegal Bay, a short drive from the town. Other golf clubs are Ballybofey/Stranorlar and Bundoran.

 

Donegal Motor Club

You can also visit is motor clubs where you can spend the whole day watching rallys. The Donegal International Rally is an annual event that was launched in 1972. The large sport event attracts around 50 000 visitors each year who come to watch the rally.

 

Glenveagh National Park

Another nature lover’s paradise is the Glenveagh National Park which features sprawling gardens, old castle grounds, and nature canopies where you can have a picnic or a photo walk. There are other parks and grounds that you can explore by walking and you will always be rewarded with breathtaking views no matter where you choose to go.

During the summer season, average temperatures range from 9 to 17 °C (49 to 62 °F). In the winter season, daily temperatures in Donegal average around 3 to 10 °C (38 to 50 °F).
The mild summer season brings a more comfortable weather for hiking, walking, and sightseeing. But if you want to brave out the chilly winter weather in Donegal, you can plan your holiday around December to February. Just make sure to make the necessary arrangements beforehand because some shops and facilities close down in winter.

MARATHON

Donegal Marathon

The Donegal Marathon is an annual marathon event in August in the Irish city Donegal. It features a full marathon and a half-marathon, making sure that both the hardcore running enthusiasts as well as the a bit more casual runners has a race to take part in. The race starts on the road outside Aura Leisure Centre and travels north past Letterkenny and does a loop heading south down River Swilly towards Driminaught. Taking part in the Donegal Marathon is indeed a great way of experiencing the Irish countryside!
