While in Montpellier, you can spend some time relaxing on the lovely beaches and soaking in some warm sunshine. From the city center, there is an excellent bike path leading to the beach; it is about an hour’s ride  and provides a lovely and scenic route for those who enjoy cycling.

Be sure to try dining at some of the quaint restaurants in the city, where some of the most popular French cuisines have originated. You can also try some excellent French wines and beverages at one of the many clubs or bars in the city. If you enjoy salsa dancing, the city also has several great clubs where you can socialize and learn some new dance moves.



Montpellier has an excellent rugby team and you should not miss watching a game while you are in the city.



The local zoo offers free admission and a great selection of wildlife and plants. Be sure to stop by and see lions, bears, and a recreated Amazonian forest.

Montpellier has a mild climate with warm summers and cool, wet winters. The Festival de Radio is a summer festival wherein the city comes together in celebration and hosts operas, concerts, films, and lectures. Montpellier Opera House

Opéra Comédie

Inaugurated in 1888, Opéra Comédie is the main venue for opera in Montpellier. It is the home of the opera company Opéra national de Montpellier, which each season give amazing performances. The opera features two auditoriums in which Opéra national de Montpellier give their performances. The primary auditorium seats 1200 people and the Salle Molière concert hall is a little bit more intimate seating 350 people. Montpellier Marathon

The Montpellier Marathon has been an annual marathon event since 2010 and is held in the month of October. The race starts and finished on Place de la Comédie and will take you on a tour of the great inner city of Montpellier. Every year, the organizers improve the course so make sure to check out their website and the course map before you show up at the starting location! A great thing about the marathon is that they every year have a special program for overweight people, making the event as much a health campaign as a marathon festival. Apart from this they also offer many other distances, ensuring that everyone can participate, no matter if you are a beginner or a an elite runner!
