La Rochelle is a city in France that holiday goers shouldn’t miss if you love the sea. It is known for being one of the most attractive seaside cities in Europe.
La Rochelle is a wonderful place to spend a nice and relaxing holiday. Below we have listed some of our favorite things to do in La Rochelle;
La Rochelle has two lovely beaches for travelers to see: one is close to the town center and one is in the south of the city, which is said to be the best and safest one in La Rochelle as it has lifeguards.
If you would rather look at the creatures that live in the sea, go to the La Rochelle Aquarium near the harbor. The aquarium has more than 12,000 marine creatures and up to 20 kinds of sharks. Visitors to the aquarium will walk down a wondrous glass tunnel with fish on all sides. There are creatures from all the different oceans of the world, with the highlight being a large tank of sharks.
You can save money by camping at the town’s campsite, which is close enough to the center of town. It is open from June to September.
Have some fun shopping in Old Town for antiques, jewelry, and other lovely souvenirs. You can also head to 17 Rue du Temple to find clothing stores. There is a wonderful indoor marketplace at the Place du Marche where vendors sell seafood and cheese. There are also other shops with items like pottery, glass, and other great bargains.
Sports lovers may want to take in a rugby game at the Stade Marcel-Deflandre stadium when the local team is playing there.
La Rochelle features an oceanic climate with dry and sunny summers, and mild and wet winters.
If you come in June, you can see the International Film Festival. More than 70,000 people arrive annually in La Rochelle just to see short and full-length films from France and beyond.
You can also plan your holiday around the Fête du Port festival to celebrate the sea at the La Rochelle harbor in May.
