Nightlife

In stark contrast to the historic Colonial Zone are the modern and bustling nightlife districts of Santo Domingo. The city even features the world’s only nightclub built inside a real cave. It is called La Guacara Taina.

 

A trip to the Beach

There are no accessible beaches within the city of Santo Domingo, but you can take a short trip to Boca Chica if you want a genuine Caribbean beach experience.

 

When to go to Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo experiences a tropical climate but without the stifling heat and humidity. Tropical trade winds give Santo Domingo pleasant weather conditions throughout the year, although these trade winds are also the reason why the city experiences rains and hurricanes. The warmest months are July through September while the coolest are December to January. The driest months are January to April, but infrequent rains can also fall during these months. The months of May through October are the wettest times of the year.

Weather wise, November to March is the best time to visit Santo Domingo while April to July is the time when most festivals happen in the city.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites Santo Domingo - Colonial City of Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo was the first permanent establishment of the New World, when in 1492 Christopher Columbus arrived on the island. As the site of the first cathedral, hospital, university and customs house in the Americas and where the European culture spread from to the new continent, the Colonial City of Santo Domingo is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Santo Domingo’s colonial city has conserved its original grid structure of the 15th century and the functions of the first constructions. The best way to enjoy it is to take a walk in its streets to enjoy the buildings and their charm, with no rush given the small size of the area.

GOLF

Golf in Santa Domingo

There are two 18 hole courses near Santo Domingo, the best being Las Lagunas Country Club. It features a long front 9 where players have a lot of space on the wide fairways and a back 9 which offers a more difficult challenge with narrow fields of play and small greens, all in all making it a varied course to play on. You can also play on the 27 hole course of Santo Domingo Country Club, a course that is not very difficult and thus is great for beginners.
