Located in West Africa, Abidjan is the former capital and the second largest city of Cote d’Ivoire. Aside from being the “Paris of Cote d’Ivoire,” Abidjan is also nicknamed the “Manhattan of the Tropics” because of its bustling tourism industry. Several golf and sports clubs, bars, restaurants, and hotels dot the city and as a visitor you won’t have a problem finding things to do in Abidjan when visiting.

 

Culture and Sights

When it comes to sightseeing activities, Abidjan has its fair share of museums, monuments and mosques. Some of the best religious buildings are the Treichville mosque and the Saint Paul’s Cathedral. When it comes to cultural showcases, you can visit the National Library of Ivory Coast and the Goethe Institute.

 

 

Entertainment and Nightlife

If you want to flee the sun sun for a while, why not go see a movie. There are a few cinemas in town you can choose from. At night, you can enjoy the vivid nightlife scene in the whole city, especially in the nightlife districts of Marcory and Cocody.


Beaches

There are several beaches in the area of Vridi where you can frolic under the sun but during the weekends it can become very busy. The water is usually pretty rough and swimmings is not recommended.

 

When to go to Abidjan

Abidjan’s climate is tropical, with distinct wet and dry seasons. However, rainfall even during the dry seasons is not uncommon. The rainiest months are from May to July while the driest are from December to February. When planning your holiday to Abidjan, you should consider the weather as the wet season may hinder sightseeing and beach-going. The best time to visit is during the dry season, particularly the months of January through April.

 

Festivals

Abidjan also hosts many festivals and events throughout the year. There are several film festivals, fashion shows, musical festivals, and cultural events that you can join. The best thing to do is to find out the schedule of the festivals you want to see and book your trip around those dates.
