UNESCO World Heritage Sites Cartagena - Port, Fortresses and Group of Monuments, Cartagena

The city of Cartagena in Colombia used to be a key link in the route of the West Indies, making it a key element in the history of the exploration of the New World. This, together with its well-preserved military architecture, gave Cartagena’s port, fortresses and certain monuments a stand on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1984. The Castillo San Felipe de Barajas is a great fortress to visit in the area. An audio guide is highly recommended given that there are no explanatory signs, but its past defending the city from the English and the French will bring you back in time.
