Plan your trip in September if you wish to attend the Folk Festival, or June if you are attending the Jazz Festival. If you wish to run in the marathon, where the proceeds go to charity, it is organized in May annually.

A peak season for tourists to come to Ottawa is between May and October. This is the period when most of their music festivals and carnivals are held. Their low peak tourist season is between November and January. Travelers on a budget can win great savings on accommodations during this wintry period.

Golf in Ottawa

Ottawa has a wide range of golfing opportunities. 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa you will find the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, a challenging 18 hole championship golf course. Pine View Golf Course is another great one, featuring wide fairways and big greens. UNESCO World Heritage Sites Ottawa - Rideau Canal

The Rideau Canal passing through Ottawa is the only canal in North America dating from early 19th century that remains fully operational. This fact has helped the Rideau Canal make it to UNESCO’s World Heritage List and it is definitely worth a visit if you are around Ottawa. You can enjoy the canal by walking next to it, in which case you should wear comfortable shoes to avoid getting tired too soon. Another good option, however, is to rent bikes and ride by the canal. Ottawa Marathon

The annual Ottawa Race Weekend offers 7 seven different races to choose from where the full marathon, Ottawa Marathon, is the main event. Other than that you can run a half-marathon, a 10k run, a 5k run, a 2k run, 1.2K run for kids and also a wheelchair marathon. It is held the last weekend of May every year and has grown to be one of the biggest marathon events in Canada.
