Calgary is in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is well-known as a financial leader in the country and it was the first city in Canada to host the Olympic Games in 1988. Calgary Zoo

Animal lovers will enjoy going to the Calgary Zoo, which is run by the Zoological Society. About 800 animals live there, including 120 different species of fish, animals and insects. It can be visited every day of the year except Christmas Day.

 

Calgary Golf Courses

Do you love to golf? There are eight municipal golf courses to choose from in Calgary, and they range from ones good for beginners to those great for more experienced golfers.

 

Calgary Expo

If you love comics and pop culture, then plan your Canadian holiday at the end of April to attend the annual Calgary Expo. It features special appearances from TV, cartoons, books, anime, and more and attracts more than 60,000 fans.

 

When to go to Calgary

Calgary has a prairie-steppe type climate with cold, but sunny winters and rain that falls in the summertime.

 

Calgary Opera

If your tastes run more to opera, you have a choice of coming between May and September to see the Calgary Opera. They are a company that performs inside the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium several times during that timeframe.

 

Calgary Marathon

Get to Calgary in June if you love to run, as the Calgary marathon is on 1 June. This is the longest running marathon in the country, as it started back in 1963. There are also a half marathon and a 5 and 10K run for those who want to do a shorter race.

It is not an exaggeration to say that you will be busy exploring the many different opportunities for golf if you want to see it all when you are in Calgary.

Calgary Opera House

Southern and Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium

The Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is the venue where the productions of the Calgary Opera Company take place. The Calgary Opera has committed to the development of new opera works and of Canadian talent especially during the past decade, which in addition to their education programs have made the company connect very well with the community. Built together with the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in 1955 for the 50th anniversary of Alberta, the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is home to, apart from the Calgary Opera, the Alberta Ballet and many Broadway shows among lots of other productions. You should definitely check the programmes of both venues during your visit and maybe attend a musical or a stand-up comedy show!

MARATHON

Calgary Marathon

The Calgary Marathon is an annual marathon that has been held since 2002 in late May. The race starts and finishes near the Stampede Grandstand and will take you through the inner city of Calgary, past the Bow River and island then alongside the river for a long stretch and finally the route will take you on a tour of Calgary's city center. For the runners that can't get enough of marathons, there is also a possibility to take part in the 50k Ultra which features an additional 8 kilometers, as if a marathon wasn't tough enough!

Calgary ski vacations - Best downhill slopes in North America

Calgary in Canada serves you with many lovely ski resorts where you can find something for everyone. Only 45 minutes away you will find Nakiska, where the Olympics were held in 1988. Here you can find a total of 28 ski slopes and the highest is at 7 415 ft (2 260 m). The highest drop height is 2 411 ft (735 m). The season in Nakiska starts in December and continues until mid April.   You can find more ski resorts that are very popular nearby. Banff, one of these, is usually described as a first-class ski resort where you will find all that you desire in a ski trip. Here the skiing starts mid November and continues on until late May if you like. Banff offers the longest ski season in North America. During these months you can find something to please everyone, it does not matter if you are a beginner or a pro when you have 274 different ski slopes to choose from. Apart from all that you will also have beautiful views to enjoy while gliding down the slopes in fluffy, dry powder snow.   Lake Louise is another closely located resort where you will find some of North Americas best downhill slopes! Whether you are a skilled skier or not this is a perfect place to go. You can find everything from courses for beginners to limitless offpist-slopes. Lake Louise is also known for its peaceful atmosphere and magnificent nature with white Mountains and turquoise glaciers. And if you are in the mood for something else there are a lot of good places for hiking available.   At last we have Sunshine Village with its highest piste at 8 957 ft (2 730 m). The highest drop height lands on 3 510 ft (1 070 m) and the longest piste you will find here is about 5 miles (8 km). Most commonly the season lasts between November and May.
