Because of the tropical monsoon climate of the city, São Luis experiences a short dry season from August through November and a long wet season covering the rest of the year. Average temperatures stay quite constant at 26 to 27 °C (79 to 81 °F) throughout the year, with higher humidity during the wet season.
Bumba-meu-boi is one of the biggest cultural festivals in São Luis. It is a two-week celebration in June where people celebrate the folklore behind the Iberian origin. Theatric storytelling, musical events, and dances are held throughout the city during this festival.
