UNESCO World Heritage Sites Salvador da Bahia - Historic Centre of Salvador de Bahia

The city of Salvador de Bahia was the first capital of Brazil from the 16th century until the 18th century, allowing it to observe the blending of cultures between Europe, Africa and the New World. At that time, the city consisted of today’s Historic Centre of Salvador de Bahia, an area filled with streets lined with colourful buildings and beautiful churches and convents such as São Francisco. In a darker side but still part of its history, the city of Salvador de Bahia was also the first slave market in the New World, a fact due to which the Historic Centre is also known as the Pelourinho, Portuguese for pillory or whipping post. Today, the Largo, the square where this used to happen, is a place to have dinner and enjoy music, while during the day it stays calmer.

Golf in Salvador da Bahia

Located on the coast of Salvador da Bahia, you will find Iberostar Praia do Forte Golf Club. It is the only course in the area and offers an 18 hole course that both professionals and amateurs will have a great time on. Especially great are the last three holes which all run along the coastline, making them a little bit extra difficult as the ocean wind does its best to steer away your shots. As it is located very close to the beach, it is a great way to start the day before heading down for a swim!
