When to go to Rio de Janeiro

Between January and March the climate is very hot, sometimes over 37.8 degrees Celsius (100℉). In September and October the temperature drops back to around 20 ℃ (70 ℉). The climate is called “Tropical Savannah”, with a heavy rainy season from December until March.

One of the most exciting events in Rio de Janeiro is the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. This holiday is held for four days at the beginning of February. It is complete with costumes, music, parades, food and lots of other fun events.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites Rio de Janeiro - Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea

The city of Rio de Janeiro itself is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List, including the Botanical Gardens, the statue of Christ the Redeemer that you probably know, the Corcovado Mountain below said statue and the hills around Guanabara Bay. Visiting the statue of Christ the Redeemer is a must according to most visitors of the city. Buy the train tickets online the day before to avoid lines or take the vans leaving from the city to get up there, and go early to avoid big crowds. The views from the top are breath taking, but keep in mind that if it’s cloudy you may not be able to see the top of the statue!

When in Brazil you can run Rio de Janeiro Marathon, which apart from the full marathon also offers you a half-marathon and a 6K family run. Maratona Pão de Açúcar de Revezamento Rio de Janeiro is another marathon in Rio de Janeiro with a beautiful course.

GOLF

Golf in Rio de Janeiro

As the 86 different local birds species wake up, golf at the scenic Itanhanga Golf Club starts everyday. This course is probably the best in Rio de Janeiro, featuring 18 championship holes with great design and the beautiful hills as a backdrop. The only challenger to the throne is the Gavea Golf and Country Club. Here you will play with the Pedra da Gávea and the Morro Dois Irmãos hills surrounding you, giving a frame to your round of golf. While there aren't many options for golfers in Rio de Janeiro, these two courses do make up for it.
