Entering Sofitel So Bangkok is like entering an art gallery.
You’re greeted by staff in beautiful costumes, passing a small boutique shop that sells design furniture and immediately you get the feeling of amazement.
The smooth darkness represents the old Siam and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed.
Taking the elevator up to the lobby you’re entering the world of today’s Bangkok – a spacious room with a light and modern feeling.
This stylish lobby is as much a bar as it is a reception, and sitting down in a beautifully designed chair with a drink in your hand you’ll be stunned by the view over the great Lumpini park and the city’s skyline.
Continuing to different levels of the hotel is continuing this journey of contrasts. This hotel is not a one man project but an art collaboration between some of Thailand’s most famous designers and the architect Smith Obayawat from OBA.
Bringing all these different designers and ideas together could easily make the expression fragmented but in this creative place with dramatic and theatrical design you’ll find harmony, peace and inspiration – Marvelous!
The theme of the hotel is the five elements and each designer got their own element to create.
The floors with rooms that have the water elements are designed by Pongthep Sagulku (August Design), the earth by Vitoon Kunalungkarn (IAW Design), the beautiful wood elements are designed by Nithi Sthapitanonda (49 Group) and the metal elements are designed by Somchai Jongsaeng (Deca Atelier). Even though the shape of the rooms are pretty much the same on each floor the design of the corridors and the rooms differs a lot.
Our absolute favourites are the metal rooms which we highly recommend you book when staying at Sofitel So Bangkok!
These rooms hves a lighter and more minimalistic design than the other rooms and we love the glass window bathrooms and the beautiful chaise lounge from where you can enjoy the amazing view over the park.
You can of course take the chance to stay in different rooms when staying more then a night – but do trust us on our recommendation on the metal theme. (If there are no metal rooms then the water would be our second choice).
Fire is the element of the public areas and is designed by Rujiraporn Wanglee (PIA Interior).
You’ll find this energetic element in various levels of the hotel So Sofitel Bangkok but it is probably most obvious at the vibrant restaurant Red Oven.
A dinner at Red Oven should be mandatory when staying here – every evening a buffet with delicious fresh food from all over the world is served.
The vibrant ambiance at the restaurant is internationall and if you close your eyes you won’t be able to tell if you’re in Bangkok, Paris or New York.
After dinner make sure to get a drink on the roof top at Park Society on the 29th floor.
If you’re looking for a romantic end to the night then walk up to the intimate and romantic terrace.
When staying at Sofitel So Bangkok you can easily ignore the city and just spend the whole day in the building.
Unification of all the elements you’ll find in Club Signature designed by the world renowned designer Christian Lacroix. In this lounge you’ll find the creativity you need to create your own masterpieces.
The Spa and terrace with the beautiful infinity pool are more then you could wish for. And did we mention that there is a chocolate factory, Chocolab, on the first floor and that they have an all-you-can-eat-hour?!
I don’t think we have to underline that making So Sofitel our absolute favourite boutique hotel in Bangkok.
Next time you pass through the city make sure to stop by. If not to stay for a night then to enjoy the food and to get inspired!

Bangkok, Thailand can trace its history to being a little trading post during the 15th century. However, it has come a long way since then and in fact was the site for two capital cities in the country: Thonburi (1768) and Rattanakosin (1782) and is also now a major site for finance, business, arts, entertainment and health care.
