Bern is the capital of Switzerland, beautiful, and famous for many things. There is a large range of things to do in Bern while on vacation and it also lies near well-known locales such as Interlaken or Wengen and therefore makes a great travel base to visit other places as well.
Holiday goers can have fun with winter activities like skiing, skating, snowboarding, sled riding, curling, or even ice climbing. If you prefer to stay warm, have fun indoors with swimming, bowling, tennis, squash or keep fit at one of the local gyms.
You can also go shopping in one of Europe’s longest shopping streets called the Arcades. It is home to world renown designers and brands and unique Swiss ones as well. Two markets not to miss are the folk festival on the 4th Monday in November and the annual Christmas market.
History lovers will enjoy the various museums like the Einstein Museum, the museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Natural History, or the Swiss Alpine Museum. All offer great exhibits and insight into the history of Bern and the country of Switzerland.

If you are passionate about exhibits, don’t miss the Bern Expo, a mix of trade fairs, exhibits, concerts, convention activities and events, which are in four sets of buildings and 8 halls.
Regardless of when during the year you visit the city, there are always things to do in Bern. If you love music, don’t miss the International Jazz Festival held every year in March. Bern features a mild, wet marine west coast climate with no dry season, so holiday goers should be prepared for rain. The average annual temperature is about 8.6 degrees Celsius (47.5 degrees Fahrenheit) and it rains about 986 mm (38.8 in), but still has about 1,756 hours of sunshine a year too. That translates into plenty of sunny days!
