Things to do in Basseterre

Basseterre, is considered to be a great place to do some walking and sightseeing. There are beautiful palm trees, great shopping spots to browse, and history lovers won’t want to miss the St. George Anglican Church or the famous Independence Square, where they used to sell slaves, but now stands as a symbol of their freedom.


Nags Head

A great place to visit is the Nags Head in the south of St. Kitts and you can take a boat there from Basseterre. Once there you can see stingrays, whales, and other sea creatures. It is considered a good place for expert divers as well.


Sandy Point

Sandy Point is another diving spot to visit and a favorite of photographers since it features beautiful species of sponges like barrel, gorgonians, orange and elephant ears. Plus, you can see other sea animals in their natural habitat. It is 15 miles north of the city.


Turtle Bar Reef

Or, go to Turtle Bar Reef where you can see coral and marine creatures. It is shallow and appropriate for novice divers and for those who snorkel. It’s only 20 minutes from Basseterre. When to go to Basseterre

Basseterre has a tropical rainforest type of climate, so if you come here on holiday, prepare for copious rain showers, as the city has no dry season. Temperatures all year average about 27 °C (81 °F).

Golf in Basseterre

The premier place for golfers in Basseterre is the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club. The par 71 18 hole golf course was designed by architect Thomas McBroom and is a tournament ready, challenging course. On 10 of the holes there are water to avoid and a total of 80 bunkers make it a course where precision is at least as important as power. Located on the shoreline, it is truly what you would expect out of a top class Caribbean golf course.
