Apia is the capital of Samoa and is situated on the Upolu Island with a small population. Apia may not have all that many attractions in the sense of sights but it is a fantastic place to spend your vacation and a great destination if you want some peace and quiet. Relaxing and doing as little as possible, is definitely one of the best things to do in Apia.
Although Apia isn’t much of a tourist attraction in itself, it is the ideal starting point if you want to explore the entire Samoa. There are also a few highlights and features in the city if you decide to stay here for a day or a week.
If you’re up for some sightseeing, you can visit landmarks like the Apia Samoa Temple and the Museum of Samoa. You can also visit the house where Robert Louis Stevenson resided during his last years.
There are also several recreational facilities in and around the city that are perfect for an afternoon of activities. There are clubs where you can play golf, tennis, and other sports.
If you wish to go swimming or snorkeling, you can head to the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve and rent a gear. You can also just spend a lazy afternoon walking along the sea wall or bumming at the beach.
Apia has a tropical rainforest climate which makes the weather quite rainy the whole year. The relatively driest months are July and August. Temperatures in the city average at 26°C (78.8°F) throughout the year. July and August provide the most ideal weather for tourists who want to go to the beach or do some sightseeing around the city.
If you want to try some game and sport fishing, you can plan your holiday around April to May and September to October because these are the perfect times to catch huge fishes. The Samoa International Game Fishing Tournament is held in the month of April every year.
