Things to do in Accra

There’s a wide range of activities and things to do in Accra. As the largest city and capital of Ghana, Accra is the center of economy, administration, and tourism of the country. As such, you won’t get bored with the many holiday destinations you can find in the city.


Sports and beaches

Sports lovers can visit the Accra Sports Stadium and La Raceway while beach bums can head outside the city to reach Labadi Beach or Bojo Beach. These beaches have great amenities and are lined with hotels, bars, restaurants, and other entertainment venues.



If you’re a day person, you can spend your time shopping or sightseeing. There are at least 5 shopping malls in the city, such as the Accra Mall and the A&C Shopping Mall.





Sightseeing destinations include the National Museum, Osu Castle, and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.


Accra Nightlife

But if you’re a night owl, you can indulge in the pulsating nightlife scene of Accra. Five-star, three-star, and budget hotels can be found throughout the city. There are several nightclubs and pubs in the city as well.


Accra Zoo

Accra Zoo is a small but interesting zoo in the city and houses a collection of indigenous African birds and animals.


When to go to Accra

Accra experiences a mix of tropical savanna climate and semi-arid climate. The wet, rainy months are humid and they feel warmer than the actual hot, dry months. The main rainy season occurs from April to mid-July and the second, shorter rainy season happens in October. August is the coolest month while March is the hottest.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites Accra - Forts and Castles, Volta, Greater Accra, central and Western Regions

Found along the coast of Ghana, between Keta and Beyin, the remains of the fortified trading posts that stood there since the 15th century are listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage Site since 1979. Consisting of three castles and more than 15 forts, the site was built and occupied by traders from many countries, including Portugal, Spain, Germany and Britain, during different times. At first they were used for trading gold, but later on they played a significant role in slave trade.
